First Day

Standard

The class was a nightmare–

it was only the first day.

Nobody was listening–

they were talking above me,

throwing papers, yelling, up and running about.

I was afraid–

I couldn’t get their attention.

I screamed at the top of my lungs,

“Tomorrow you will be mine!”

A part of me knew,

it was too late,

I had lost them

already

on this first day.

I was in anguish.

Then, I woke up,

realizing I still had time

to prepare.

  1. This is the way I felt when I was a substitute years ago. I never knew what was going to happen in a particular class-& the age didn’t matter either. Teachers do worry so much don’t they? Hope the dreams get to be good ones, Maya, instead of nightmares. I love “Tomorrow, you will be mine!”

  2. My heart was beating faster and faster as I read… guess it’s the grown up version of dreaming you wore your pajamas to school…
So glad we have more time to get ready! It’s only one more week for me!
